How To Clean Hardwood Floors?

Hardwood floor is one of the great flooring investments you can do in your home to boost appearance. However, due to daily foot traffic by humans and your furry friends, your hardwood floors wear out. Hence, learning how and what to use to clean hardwood floors is essential to protect and maintain your beautiful investment.

Since dirt and grime can’t hide in the hardwood floor as they do in a carpet, cleaning hardwood floors may seem to be a high-maintenance task. However, once you establish your own routine, the best way to clean the hardwood floor doesn’t seem to be so difficult.

Daily Schedule–Dust or Sweep

Regularly dusting your floors using a microfiber mop or cloth will give your wood floor a great defense against scratches and surfacing damage. Microfibers cleaning pads often use static electricity to trap dust particles and allergens. As an option, you can also use a broom. It will be an effective technique, but this will eventually push the dirt around.

Note: When you want to clean your floor properly, avoid lifting the cloth or mop up off the floor when you clean – this will keep the dust and dirt trapped in the pad.

Weekly Schedule–Vacuum or Mop

The weekly maintenance will deal with the places that are harder to reach on in regular cleaning. Hence, when you are looking at what to use to clean hardwood floors in weekly schedules, you can use vacuums and wet mops. These both are ideal for getting the dirt out of trouble areas like corners and the spaces between each piece of hardwood.

However, using vacuums and mops come with additional caution when you want to clean floors without damaging them. If your vacuum has a beater bar, make sure it doesn’t hit the bar floor. Moreover, the wheels on a vacuum might damage the floor. When you’re using a mop, make sure water and wood don’t mix! Avoid putting the excess liquid on your floor. Little mist on the floor is enough to give a deep clean to the wood floors.

Finding the best ways and what to use to clean hardwood floors may take some time and patience if you are not used to regular DIY cleaning and maintenance. But once you know the right tools and techniques, you’ll be able to keep your wood floors looking at their best.
