Our Unique Cleaning Techniques

The delicate care required for both hand-made and machine-made area rugs is well understood by our expert teams. Before we begin any area rug cleaning process, we consider the rug’s origin, colorfastness, and fiber type to recommend the ideal cleaning solution. This process allows us to determine if in-home cleaning or in-facility cleaning best suits the needs of your rug.

Both methods yield amazing results, opting for in-facility cleaning is recommended for handmade rugs to ensure their safety. Regardless of the method you choose, our commitment to using only the finest cleaning products for area rug cleaning guarantees that your rugs will not suffer from color fading or bleeding.

For various reasons, area rug cleaning requires unique techniques compared to cleaning installed carpets. Because area rugs typically rest on hardwood floors or tile floors without being anchored down, we must treat them differently. We outlined our process below.  Take note! Per your request, area rugs can also be treated with various products such as fabric protector or sealer, moth protection, deodorizer, and much, much more.

In-Home Rug Cleaning

In-home rug cleaning means steam cleaning also known as the hot water extraction method. When steam cleaning, which is an appropriate technique for most machine-made area rugs. After the inspection, our process is as follows:

  1. Protect the subfloor by either laying plastic down or moving the rug to another area.
  2. Vacuum the rug, first on the top, then flip it over to vacuum the bottom. This helps remove as much dust as possible.
  3. Pre-spray the rug, paying special attention to soiled areas and spots.
  4. Gently scrub the fibers with a soft rug brush to agitate the product.
  5. Proceed with the steam cleaning.

We take care to clean the rug from every angle, including steam cleaning the fringe and back of the carpet as needed. Once we’ve finished the cleaning, we help to place the rug back where it belongs or in an area of open ventilation to facilitate the drying process.

In-Facility Rug Cleaning

In-facility cleaning is an involved process. We have your rug for seven to ten business days, and pick up and delivery are always free. In our area rug washing plant, our advanced cleaning solution proceeds as follows:

  1. Dust both sides of the area rug, to remove any loose dust, dirt, or grime. Removing this refuse will allow us to more thoroughly clean the rug rather than the muck trapped on it.
  2. Treat the rug to protect against color fading.
  3. Scrub the rug in all directions, including the bottom of the rug and the fringe using specialized tools.
  4. Pressure wash both the front and back of the rug with a special product to clean the fibers AND restore them.
  5. Press the area rug using our innovative washing machine, which has been designed specifically to lie flat and clean area rugs.
  6. Gently brush the rug once again before placing it in our drying room, where it rests for a few days to dry.

The bonus with in-facility cleaning, is that we rinse and repeat this process as many times as needed until we achieve the most optimal results.
