Marble is formed from limestone that is superheated to form its unique crystalline structure. Its natural elegance sets a perfect statement in any entryway or floor space within your home or commercial space. Marble tiles are known to last virtually forever if they are cleaned and maintained properly. Although porous and easily stained, marble has a reputation for being one of the most luxurious home design materials and its attractive veining and color options can truly make it stand out in any room.
At JP Floor Care, we are able to provide many marble stone restoration services including marble polishing for both your floor and counter, marble cleaning, marble repair, and marble sealing.
For thousands of years, terracotta tiles have been used by mankind as floor and wall coverings. Nowadays, despite the huge technological advances in ceramics, Mexican hand-made terracotta floor tiles are still some of the most beautiful and sought-after building materials among architects, builders, designers, and consumers.
Saltillo tile is highly porous and soaks in liquid easily. If not properly sealed and maintained, the tile can become discolored, worn down, and eventually require replacement. You should periodically test the seal by putting a few drops of water on the tile in various places. If the water is absorbed, then another coat of sealer should be applied. Different types of sealers can provide different finished looks. For example, a glossy sealer would provide a shiny, wet look, while a penetrative sealer would allow the natural look of your beautiful tiles to remain.
JP Floor Care is well-versed in the delicate handling required by Saltillo Tile and can provide such services at Spanish Tile refinishing, resealing, and if required, Spanish Tile re-coloring. Though more of a clay than a stone, our stone restoration services do include restoring Saltillo Tile.
Our stone restoration services also include terrazzo flooring: a beautiful aggregate-type floor. Terrazzo is an extremely unique style of flooring and, either cement-based or epoxy-based, Terrazzo is beautiful and adds a distinct look to any space. The epoxy or cement is mixed with an aggregate of some sort to produce that beautiful and familiar terrazzo look. This aggregate can be many types of materials including marble aggregate blends, mother-of-pearl and abalone shell, glass, porcelain, concrete, or metal. Shapes and medallions can be fabricated and inset during the installation of the terrazzo, to provide another unique finish.
Of course, like any floor, maintenance is required. Contact with alkalies or acids, such as certain chemical cleaners, can deteriorate the bonding agents used in the terrazzo. Cracking and deterioration is the most common form of failure. If a large portion of the flooring must be replaced due to cracking, the damaged section must first be removed, after which the structural subsurface will be examined. Replacement terrazzo must achieve a continuous look by having the same color marble chips, or other aggregates as the rest of the floor.
Travertine is a sedimentary rock that originated as limestone (calcium carbonate) and changed over time due to extreme heat and pressure from the earth’s core. Holes and voids were created throughout the stone layers when pressurized hot water and steam were forced through the rock during formation and the cooling process, thus creating the beautiful veins travertine is known for. Travertine comes in a variety of colors from grey to coral-red and is most commonly available in tile sizes for floor installations.
Travertine is one of several natural stones that are used for paving patios and garden paths. It is sometimes known as travertine limestone or travertine marble; these are the same stone, although travertine is classified properly as a type of limestone, not marble. The stone is characterized by pitted holes and troughs on its surface.
Although these troughs occur naturally, they suggest signs of considerable wear and tear. Along with filling these troughs to ensure they don’t grow larger over time, travertine can be polished. Depending upon the type of travertine you have, it may be polished to either a mirror-like finish or a beautiful natural look. JP Floor Care takes care to fill the pits in your travertine to match your stone, so once dried and polished, you wouldn’t be able to tell where the hole used to be. We strive to provide you with the highest quality for your travertine repair and polish.
